The World Bank has found that each subsequent year of schooling raises earnings potential by 10%. This increases to 13.5% in Sub-Saharan Africa. And in South Africa, where there is more granular data, this study finds that the impact of education on earnings is exponential.

FoondaMate uses AI to bring the power of the internet to everyone

We do this by building local language chatbots for easy to use chat applications.

High data costs and with low quality devices limit the education students in emerging markets can access. By bringing online learning to already-popular chat apps FoondaMate empowers users to learn on the devices they have without the need to splurge on data.

By chatting in students’ home languages FoondaMate makes online learning relatable and simple for users who don’t speak English at home.

This brings online learning to anyone, from anywhere.

Because we are remote and have team members across many timezones, we focus on asynchronous communication over meetings. We focus on good documentation and written communication, with meetings reserved primarily for social and “show and tell” purposes.
